ECHO is a European Erasmus+ project dedicated to the inclusion and empowerment of young people with a migrant background through participatory theatre and non-formal education.
The project was created to address the cultural, linguistic and social barriers that can hinder the full participation of young migrants in the life of European communities. Theatre becomes a safe and inclusive space in which to share experiences, value different identities and cultures, build relationships and foster intercultural dialogue.
Through national and transnational workshops, theatre performances and activities focused on citizenship and social entrepreneurship, ECHO aims to:
- promote social inclusion and a sense of belonging;
- increase knowledge of European values, human rights and active citizenship;
- develop transversal skills such as communication, creativity, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving;
- improve employability and the initiative spirit of participating young people;
- encourage the creation of ideas and projects able to generate a positive impact in local communities.
The experiences and methodologies developed will feed into the ECHO Toolkit, a multilingual collection of tools, resources and audiovisual content designed to enable youth organisations, educators, trainers and social workers to replicate the project’s approach in other European contexts.
Delivered through the collaboration of organisations from Ireland, Italy, Spain and Portugal, ECHO contributes to building communities that are more inclusive, participatory and aware of the value of cultural diversity.
